Fifty, Flirty, and Thriving: Why Women Over 50 Are More Open to Plastic Surgery

A lot of women feel anxious about aging. Some refuse to talk about or even mention their age, or some women have completely stopped counting after they hit their 30s. Societal pressure especially on women has made the topic of aging a taboo. Hence, some women hide or are ashamed to share the various interventions that they do to avoid “looking like their age”.

But, no matter how much we want to run away from it, unless you’re a vampire, there’s really no way for us to stop aging. Throughout time, aging will affect the way we look. After all, we cannot escape the effects of gravity. It starts with a slight wrinkle on the face, crow’s feet on the corner of your eye, sagging neck skin, and the list goes on. Fortunately, more women are embracing their age and are becoming more open to surgical interventions to improve their overall look.

Financial Freedom

Older women are more lenient with their finances. At this age, some of them are also already accomplished in their respective career and are probably earning a good amount of money. That’s why some women are more lenient towards their finances and are more open to spending money to improve their physical appearance.

Long Term Solutions

Serums and anti-aging creams can only go so far when it comes to improving your look. At some point, you might want to consider a more long-term and permanent solution.

We had the pleasure of interviewing one of our favorite patients, Ms Yolly Dela Cruz who has been a long-time patient of Doc Jun, and she shared with us her motivations behind undergoing plastic surgery. She is not one to hide the surgeries she has done and as a matter of fact, she is proud to flaunt her beautiful body. Yolly is not new to undergoing plastic surgery. She and Doc Jun go way back as he was the one who did her Breast Augmentation surgery a few years back. As a Zi patient, she underwent Liposuction last 2020 to remove and lessen the fat from her abdominal area, and her latest surgery, Blepharoplasty, was done last July 2021. She had opted to undergo Blepharoplasty surgery because of her drooping eyelids. According to a blog article from Toronto Facial Plastic, some of the most popular plastic surgeries done to women over 50s are those that aim to fix sagging skin like Neck Lift, Eye Lift, Face Lift, and Forehead Lift.

Yolly is a big believer in investing in yourself to boost your confidence and self-esteem. According to her, if you can afford it, why not be more open to enhancing your features if it means that you can live more confidently and more truthfully. Yolly is already 56 years old, and while she definitely has #BodyGoals that even a 30 something could be envious of,  what keeps her forever youthful is her inspiring wisdom and her unwavering confidence.

“ I always believe that key to your happiness is really progress and growth to enhance yourself and develop into something. Feeling good about myself and looking at my best is my greatest priority. To be able to achieve this I have decided to undergo breast augmentation. Blepharoplasty and Liposuction.”

“Knowing Dr. Jun Caparas, I feel so blessed to have found a surgeon as caring, talented, and professional as him. I thank you for being the best of the best Doc Jun. You have made me feel so much better about my appearance… So thankful for giving me my self-esteem back. I’m truly happy and content with the outcome of my breast implants.”

This isn’t about making women feel more anxious about aging. We do not want women to feel like aging is something that they should be scared of, rather it’s something that you should embrace. After all, age is just a number. What matters most is the experience and knowledge that you gain from your experiences throughout the years. And how you share this knowledge and experience with others.

Non-Invasive Surgeries for First Timers

Have you ever thought about plastic surgery but is scared to actually go through it? We know that first times can be quite nerve-wracking but as they all say, there’s always a first for everything. But as all first times go, it’s okay to take baby steps, especially if it’s in plastic surgery or dermaesthetic. If you’re still gathering the courage to undergo invasive plastic surgery, here are some non-invasive surgeries for first timers.

Scar Removal

Every one of us has scars that we’ve accumulated through the years. Whether they were a scratch from our childhood, or a surgery scar that you got from adulthood, we all have scars and there’s absolutely no shame in having them. But if you’ve got a big scar and for some reason would like to have them removed, don’t worry because the  procedure is quite easy and definitely painless. Most dermatologist’s go-to scar removal treatment is through laser treatment. Note however that laser treatments cannot get rid of scars. What it mainly does is to prevent a raised scar from forming after surgery, reduces  scar pain and itching, lightens the affected area, and increases range of motion if a scar limits movement to the point that it is barely visible.

This kind of procedure is perfect for those who want a minimally invasive treatment with quick results.

Ultrasound Skin Tightening and Lifting Treatment

Instant facelift? This non-invasive treatment is for you! More commonly known as Ultherapy, Ultrasound Skin Tightening and Lifting Treatment boosts your collagen production that helps give you that lifted and tightened skin through the use of micro-focused ultrasound and simultaneous high resolution ultrasound visualization (MFU-V). It also helps enhance your facial features and gives you more bone structure. Unlike facelift surgery with a recovery  period that can take up to 2 weeks to a month but with permanent results, the recovery period for Ultherapy may only take up to a week as swelling needs to go down but results only last for about 3-6 months. Nonetheless, if you are looking for instantly gratifying results, this procedure is definitely a go-to!

Non-Surgical Rhinoplasty

They mean it when they say this one is a “Lunch-Time Procedure” as you’ll definitely see results in more or less than an hour! There are 2 types of non-invasive plastic surgery, those that use fillers and those that use threads. For fillers, the surgeon will insert the nose fillers onto the  area and will start to mould or sculpt your nose accordingly to your facial features. This procedure usually takes only 15-minutes. Threads on the other hand are placed on the nasal bridge as is pulled slightly to give the nose a lifted look. Doctors use a special thread that is absorbed by the body so it is totally safe.

How long will it last, you ask? Both methods may last as long as 2 years and with regular check-ups, you can expect it to last even longer. This procedure is usually painless as the doctor will apply a numbing cream and a local anesthesia before the procedure

There are different types of non-surgical procedures that you can have done if you are still not set on getting permanent procedures. Talk to a plastic surgeon today to know your options.

Plastic Surgery in the Time of COVID 19

Every business has adapted to the changes brought about by COVID 19. For non-essential areas of the health sector like plastic surgery and cosmetic dermatology, the impact has also been profound and one that may last for quite a long time. But what is evident to be effective in resuscitating business back to life is the promise that health and safety will be prioritized above anything else. With that,

The start of Teleconsultations

Every doctor has probably cancelled 2 or more consultations or surgeries since the start of the quarantine locally. This has not only caused delays in some of the processes needed to be done to a patient but, has also caused a gap financially speaking. Luckily, we have technology on our side to bridge this gap. Even if the physical clinic is closed and face-to-face consultations are not allowed, clinics have migrated to Teleconsultations. This allows patients to consult with their doctors remotely. It is a big adjustment as doctors heavily really on seeing their patients physically in order to properly do a diagnosis but nevertheless, it is still possible.

A Clinic Visit is Different Now

Any establishment will now require visitors to undergo safety protocol steps which involves a lot of sanitation and wearing protective equipment. It may be a lot of process to go through just for a consultation, but if it means keeping everyone’s health safe and secure. What is an additional 5 minutes before going inside the clinic right?

Here in Zi Institute, we follow a 6-step safety protocol:

1. Step on the sanitation mat

2. Sanitize your hands with the alcohol dispenser

3. Wear footwear protection

4. Temperature check before entering the clinic. If your temperature is above 38 degrees, you will not be allowed to go inside the clinic.

5. Fill up a patient health checklist before consultation

Is it safe to have surgery done during this time?

To keep it short, the answer is a definite YES! As long as we are following these safety protocols and more, we can assure you that the clinic remains virus-free and is safe to do any type of treatment or surgery. As they say, life goes on. We might just need to do extra steps to ensure our safety during this time, but there’s absolutely no need pause our whole lives. We must continue to adapt to the ever changing times and remember that this too, shall pass.

What you need to know about Chin Augmentation

If you are one of those people who are feeling insecure about the shape of your chin and finding that it is not proportioned to the rest of your face, then you must read up on the basics of Chin Augmentation surgery.

Chin Augmentation is a way of enhancing your chin through facial implants. This surgery adds a more proportioned volume to your chin in order to provide balance to other facial features. You have to know that a weak chin makes the neck look fleshy. It can actually accentuate the size of a normal nose and make it look a little bit more prominent than it seems. According to DocShop, chin enlargement through chin implant surgery brings the facial features into harmony and balances the overall facial structure.

Here are just some of the instances that may require a Chin Augmentation surgery:

  • A recessed chin
  • A pointed or squared chin
  • A very prominent nose
  • A fleshy neck

This surgery improves the appearance of your jaw and further provides balance to the appearance of a large nose. That’s why it is normally done after a Rhinoplasty or Nose Lift surgery, depending on what your plastic surgeon recommends.

There are some cases when a candidate cannot be allowed to undergo chin augmentation. Here are some of the reasons that will inhibit you from undergoing such cosmetic surgery:

  • If you have poor health
  • If you have unreasonable or unjustifiable expectations about the outcome of Chin Augmentation
  • If you have taken in Accutane for the past six months. It is the medication that can affect bone growth and can cause keloid scarring.
  • If you are suffering from cardiac problems or hypertension
  • If you are currently taking anticoagulants

But, if you do not have the above mentioned reasons or situations, then you are a good candidate for Chin Augmentation! Zi Institute of Plastic Surgery and Dermaesthetics provide the best plastic surgery procedures in the Philippines that can definitely give new meaning to your beauty and drive your confidence!
